Create Scrapbooks Haul Video: Michael’s NEW 2014 Becky Higgins Project Life 6×8″ Albums & Planner Pages

intro
Hi Everyone!

I picked up a few NEW 2014 Becky Higgins Project Life 6×8″ Albums & Planner Pages this weekend at a local Michael’s store. Yay! I wanted to show you the contents of the Becky Higgins Project Life Planner Pages and the binder album as I opened them and put together the planner (see the video below). Hope this helps you decide whether or not to purchase this based on your personality, purpose, and expectations.

I use both my iPhone and a paper based physical planner every year and think this will work fine for my needs. The planner pages inside the album does fill the album, so there is really not much room for pocket pages and inserts, but as the year goes on and you remove pages it would free up space. My album’s binder rings (as shown in the video) did not line up correctly and my pages are snagging (even though they have the phrase “snag-free” on the actual binder inside). I am sure this is just an isolated incident and am not sure if I will end up returning it, but overall I am happy with the quality of the binder for my planner purposes.

The planner pages and binder retail both at $14.99 each. I used a coupon on both items, and picked up some clearance Simple Stories Sn@p pocket page protectors (the 6×8″ page protector line fits perfectly and is the same style as the Becky Higgins protectors, but they are currently on clearance so I picked those up instead to save some money). The Becky Higgins protectors retail at $4.99 for a pack. So, definitely browse the Sn@p section at your Michaels and score the other items that fit these size of binders on clearance while you are picking yours up!)

Project Life Scrapbooking Video Series by Create Scrapbooks – Week 33 (August 13-19, 2013)

CreateScrapbooks.com Project Life Process Idea Video Week 33 2013 Layout Complete (F, A and 5x7 page protectors by Becky Higgins)
Hi everyone!

This is Terri Bradford from CreateScrapbooks.com, and here’s the latest video (showing Week 33) on my Project Life scrapbooking video series on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/user/CreateScrapbooks.

CreateScrapbooks.com Project Life Process Idea Video Week 33 2013 Layout Complete (F, A and 5x7 page protectors by Becky Higgins)

Create Scrapbooks Video – Project Life Series – Week 33 (2013) Layout Share and Scrapbook Process.

My notes from this week on supplies I used: I am STILL loving that I am using my latest Scraptastic Kits (especially the “This Life Noted” PL Style one), Gossamer Blue (especially their “Life Pages” PL Style kit) along with my Studio Calico (PL), Elle’s Studio (Papercrafting/emebellishment kits). The list is below of all the supplies/links to the clubs and more info.

I decided to add a 5×7″ Becky Higgins page protector again this week right in the center of the full 12×12″ F & A page protectors to expand my photos and journaling. It helps to have these types of protectors to accommodate the over-flow (and/or orientation) of photos and journaling elements. As usual, I like to edit in Photoshop to fix any lighting/exposure, and add dates/titles before I print. My printer is a small format that prints either 5×7″ or 4×6″ and it makes those simple enlargements easy for me to do at home. Love that! (You can click on the above photo to see a closer look at the layouts.)

Notes on my Week 33 photos/layouts: Definitely an account of how busy things get and everyday things my family does during a typical August week: work, marching band, Starbucks trip, summer AP homework and getting ready for the school year for my son. Still worth documenting the bits and pieces that make up our lives… routines and all!

Stay tuned for the next video (Week 34 – or I may just skip to December project life spreads to mix it up and work backwards!) I am in the mood to scrap with my newest December kit supplies!

Contents & Review on this Project Life Teen Boy Themed Cards Set

Here’s my photo of the packaging so you can see what to look for at the store (and see the full kit plus contents):

CreateScrapbooks.com Video of What's Inside the Teen (Boy) Themed Cards Kit, Project Life by Becky Higgins
There are 60 “Teen” boy themed cards in this set:

  • (6) 4×6″ Title Cards – double-sided
  • (6) 4×6″ Journaling Cards – horizontal or vertical, double-sided
  • (48) 3×4″ Journaling Cards – 24 different designs, 2 of each, double-sided
  • Retail for $6.99, I bought mine at Hobby Lobby locally, but they  are available online as well.

My thoughts on this kit and concept: I absolutely LOVE this kit! I have a 16-year-old son… so these were spot-on for my needs. I also tend to gravitate towards a more clean, graphic style (great to embellish as well), so am truly happy to have scored this themed card kit. If you watched my previous video on the Man’s World themed card kit you probably remember I was on the hunt for this Teen set as well!

Here are some of my favorite cards in this Teen Boy Themed Cards set:

CreateScrapbooks.com Video of What's Inside the Teen (Boy) Themed Cards Kit, Project Life by Becky Higgins

I think they are spot-on with the price point on these Themed Cards sets, and the amount of cards you get in each. I was thrilled that I could use a coupon and save a couple dollars at Hobby Lobby. It is nice to get a little addition to your stash to switch up the style. On Becky Higgins blog it does state they will be available online, a digital format will be available as well.

If you are looking for the free Project Life files I created and talked about in my videos you can find them here (free downloads):

My thoughts on this kit and concept: I absolutely LOVE this kit! I have a small family of 3 – myself, my husband, and our 16-year-old son… so I am always in need of more masculine items. I also tend to gravitate towards a more clean, graphic style (great to embellish as well), so am truly happy to have scored these. Also, if you haven’t been to my blog before (welcome!), my son plays the trumpet (and I play the violin), so we are a bunch of music-lovers here in our household. As you can imagine there is nothing better than a bunch of “play” icons to add to my Project Life spreads… as there is A LOT of practice and music-related happenings with school and our lives! On the downside, I did NOT like the music themed cards I saw offered in this same Themed Cards line (they weren’t authentic music notes to me, no staff, and was disappointed with the overall feel of those.) I am going to try to get the teen boy cards if I can find them locally and will share those if/when I get them here on my blog, too.

Here are some of my favorite cards in this Man’s World Themed Cards set:

Video + Free 4×6″ Date Overlay Template (Photo Title Card for Project Life with Date) – Digital .psd (Photoshop & Elements) File

FREE printables from CreateScrapbooks.com 4x6 project life date photo title cards photoshop pse elements tutorial scrapbooking

Today I have a new process video where I show you my process of editing a photo in Photoshop using a 4×6 photo as a weekly title card for my Project Life scrapbook for Week 32 + a free .psd downloadable file for you!

I love to use my iPhone and edit through Photoshop each week for my Project Life layouts. It saves me time, I get the image exactly the way I like, and is convenient for me to do it all myself (including printing). Weekly I use:

  • iPhone and/or my Nikon DSLR camera to take photos
  • iMac, iPhoto to import my images
  • Photoshop to edit, resize, and text/design Project Life pictures and elements, and save my designs – Note: You could use Photoshop Elements as well to do these simple tasks!
  • HP Photosmart (A646) 5×7/4×6″ compact printer with HP photo papers

FREE printables from CreateScrapbooks.com 4x6 project life date photo title cards photoshop pse elements
In this video I take you through my process of:

    1. Import/export a photo from iPhoto into Photoshop
    2. How to easily set the size and crop an image to 4×6″ to print at home
    3.  How to use the free template file (download this free .psd file here:
    http://www.createscrapbooks.com/shop/4×6-date-overlay-template-photo-title-card-project-life-date-digital-psd-photoshop-elements-file/

to use as an overlay to create a photo title card with date. or, you can use this file to simply print the date on cardstock (or the Seafoam Edition by Becky Higgins vertical title card – prints right on the small white label on the bottom).

(View this video on YouTube here)

I also started a new weekly Project Life video process series on YouTube to help me keep on track with my own PL scrapbook, share and connect with you, and hope it gives you some great ideas and motivation for your own Project Life and scrapbooking in general. I have a few new videos up on kit clubs I’ve been receiving, too! I would love to hear your comments and you can subscribe on my channel to see the latest Create Scrapbooks videos in your subscription feed at YouTube here – http://youtube.com/createscrapbooks. My goal is to share what I am doing, what has been working for me for my scrapbooking, share some files I have created that I feel are useful for my everyday scrapbooking processes. The next video later this week will be the Project Life layout I created for Week 32! Terri Bradford Create Scrapbooks
