At first Susan was a substitute teacher for a few years until she realised that she could better communicate with children through her art, writing, and drama programs and classes. While up in northern Alberta, Susan developed and taught craft classes, painting, and drama lunch hour classes for children in schools, and evening classes for children and adults in the community. Susan’s paintings, watercolor, acrylics, oils and mixed media have been seen on display over the years. In January, 2011, she had the honour to be a Guest Curator for the online art site; Cresendoh.com. She also loves the Christmas Love Campaign that she started 2 & ½ years ago to help promote love amongst scrapbooker, artists, crafters and the world!
Susan attended the University of Alberta where she studied Fine Arts, Languages, and Education. She also took online college courses throughout the years; such courses as literature, writing, education, & children’s literature. Susan K. Weckesser has also taken courses on genealogy, and has researched and written on the life of her baba, Katherine Pyrcz, & The Life of Ukrainian People in Alberta.
After adoring her second teenage job at working at Lewis Craft, Susan Weckesser fell in love with every craft that she came across. At the age of sixteen, she found herself learning how to tole paint, knit, paper tole and many other numerous crafts and then making projects and teaching classes in the stores to patrons of all ages. She had always loved crafts but now she loved them. When she became a young mom she decided to make her love of crafting, painting, and by then scrapbooking into a business, everything from crafts shows to online editing for online e-zines. Now, Susan Weckesser is combining her love of painting and her love of scrapbooking and she is releasing with her company, Susiebee Studios Inc., her first scrapbooking paper line – Live in Color.
Her ‘Live in Color’ line is a combination of water color painting, ink drawing, a little computer tweaking (because I had too), and a lot her love of nature and color! She created it because her dad always told her how important nature was and how she should always LIVE MY DREAMS!!! Susan created the paper line because she wanted to share her love of art and nature with everyone. She wanted to let everyone know how healing it is to create. Everyone can create! That is what her papers are about ….creating layer upon layer and enjoying the simple things.
Susan currently lives in Medicine Hat, Alberta with her husband of twenty-one years, Marcus and her four wonderful children; Christopher, Kurt, Ashley, & Jessica and two feline friends. She loves to live life to the fullest and create her dreams each and every day. Her father encouraged this every day, especially by getting her to take fly flying lessons to get ‘closer to nature’ & to see the world in a different way. She has even been known to sky dive just to say she did it!
Susan’s motto: ‘Live to Create ~ Create to Live.’
